THANKSGIVING FOR 21 DECEMBER 2014

29 Dec 2014 marked 5 years since my colon resection.  I AM 5 YEARS CANCER FREE.  I thank God for the protection of me life and healing my time after time after time after time after time!  Each year of my life has been better and better and better and better and better!  So looking forward to 2015.  If it's a reflection of the past 58 years, YAHOO, I AM IN!  #CantNobodyDoMeLikeJesus!  
I have had many wonderful things happened this year (2014).  
*I retired after 28 years as an Army Civilian!  THANK YOU JESUS!  I have enjoyed the ride was glad I am off the roller coaster.  Many travels, met many people, learned a lot, enjoyed my life but was ready for a change.  I loved the people I worked with.  I can truly say God surrounded me with believers everywhere I went.  YEP - HE DOES THINGS LIKE THAT!  I stepped out in faith and God did the rest.  Now I'm officially a full-time tutor. 
*Retook a Calculus I class to renew my memory for tutoring.  Lord I had not taken Calc I since 1975.  Made an A.  I love distance learning classes.  You only go in to take tests.  MY KIND OF CLASSES.  YEAH!
*Started working as a part-time Math Lab Assistant at Calhoun Community College.  My dream job for JaniceTheTutor! ahahahahahah  I love sharing knowledge and seeing people's faces light up when they "GET IT"!  Doesn't take much to get me happy.  I love this TUTORING game!
*Signed up for the Calc II class to take in the Spring semester.  Had not taken this class since 1976.  Lord I am really dating myself here!  GO WASHU BEARS!
*Accepted my role as Pastor.  Guess I was afraid of leading a church and the Lord showed me that is not the only role of a Pastor.  I am to use my gift of leadership for his glory on another level (beyond that of the secular role I had on my job).  I was led to start PRAYER BOOTCAMPS to remind God's people of PRAYER, HOW TO PRAY, WHY TO PRAY, ETC.  We are so good at attending church and enjoying corporate prayer.  But there is a deeper level of prayer, one-on-one with the Lord.  So I am now Pastor Jan.
*I enjoyed BOTH Thanksgiving and Christmas with my Boobies!  The Lord blessed me with Boobie #6 this year!  My son and daughter-in-law are the greatest hosts.  Blessed!  My Lord turned over the torch to them!  GO FREE JANICE! ahahha ahahahahaa ahahahaha ahahaha
*I was able to drive 6 hours on Saturday, despite my cold.  We went to Jackson MS to pick up my mom and her car from my brother who lives in Dallas, TX.  I have not driven long trips since starting dialysis.  I am just too tired.  But, the Lord gave me the strength and fortitude to get her done!  I rely a lot on my driver - MY HUBBY!  This man will drive me to ends of the Earth and back if I ask him.  Since he is my care-giver, I try to drive myself as often as possible to give him a break.  He has been dialyzing me for for almost 2 years.  Gotta love a man who's there thru thick and thin.  We take care of each other!  THANK YOU JESUS FOR MY HUSBAND!

THANKSGIVING FOR 29 DEC 2014

Lord I am so thankful!  Just for life,  breath, ability, use of my faculties, etc.
You know God is good when things just work / work out!  I bring to my memory the following bibles and I'm good to go!!!
Remember:  [ Jesus Comforts His Disciples John 14:1-3 NIV "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

DEAR GOD, 12-24-2014

Had a wonderful day today.  I was able to go to Dollar General and get some gifts for the kids.  I went yesterday but could not walk too long.  Even my grand-daughter asked me if I was all right.  I was trembling and perspiring.  Today I was perspiring but I was must stronger.

Another Christmas with the family.  IT WAS GREAT.  Me and my Boobie #3 had a Rock and Roll Jamm Session (him on the drums and me Scatting - WE WERE GREAT!).  Me and Boobie #5 had a Rock and Roll Jam Session on the Piano.  We are going to have go in to the studio before we forget these words.  Of course, Boobie #4 did her usual singing to enhance each of the Jamm Sessions.  Boobie #1 really believes she's and artiste'.  Enamored with her art supplies.  And yall know Boobie #2 was only concern with this new wrist launcher!!  AHAHHAHA AHAHAHHA AHAHAH

NO MORE NOISE!!!

You know I was thinking!  I have let myself get DISTRACTED by NOISE on RADIO, TV, and in SOCIAL MEDIA!  I am known for doing my own thing!  I know God wants FIGHTING WOLVES in the trenches, not LITTLE LAMBS.  I have to get back to his business!

Did not see how working with the school system educates children falling through the crack, so as directed by the Lord I started the Math & Science Academy, Inc. (MSA - tutorial firm), Janice Mitchell Isbell Academy, Inc. (JMIA - school for students struggling in a traditional classroom), Redemption Christian School (RCS - support home schoolers), and Redemption Outreach Christian Ministries (ROCM) GED program.   I am thankful for God given a job that helped fund these ministries.  Can't find the energy to attend school board meetings to this date.  Ugh!  Everybody fighting against everybody.  Everybody seeking publicity.  Nobody fighting FOR THE KIDS.   UGH!  Previously, started an after school tutoring program at my son's elementary school.  Tutored every morning at his high school.  That's how much passion the Lord has placed in me to educate.  I cannot participate in NOISE.  

Now my family has decided to step out as directed by the Lord to build a multi-purpose building to house the above activities in addition to ROCM PRAYER BOOTCAMPS, JMI PROFESSIONAL SKILLS INSTITUTE (provide services to individuals, businesses, organizations, etc. 
in the areas of Enhancing Communication Skills, Leadership/Managerial Skills, Employee/Personal Development, ETC.).  ETC ETC ETC ETC ETC.  WHATEVER GOD WANTS ON US TO DO!

I repent for being distracted before those who are keeping me accountable!   The Lord's forgiving spirit has enveloped me!  THANK YOU JESUS!   Pray my strength to do his will, focus only on his will, and to leave the NOISE to those he has anointed and appointed to fight those battles.  

GLORY!  I AM NO WAYS TIRED!  I AM ON THE BATTLEFIELD OF MY LORD!  AMAZING GRACE HOW SWEET THE SOUND!  BECAUSE HE LIVES I CAN FACE TOMORROW!  I'M GONNA LET MY LITTLE LIGHT SHINE!  I CAME ON BUSINESS FOR THE KING!  WORKING FOR MY LORD!

MY DADDY!!!

This girl had the best dad ever.  NOW YOU KNOW I'M THINKING ABOUT HIM RIGHT NOW.  Missing those white trees with royal blue balls.  In addition to concentrating on our academics.  He taught us to ride a bike by first peddling with him on the seat. hahahah He taught how to play baseball AND softball.  Yall should have seen him and my Aunt Sadie running those bases (right Frances Alfred?)  He taught us to bowl (usually bowled Saturday nights til 6 a.m. Sunday morning) (right Julius J. Mitchell Jr. Jeanette Mitchell Lamb Julie Mitchell Jackson Hursey ???).  I actually won IM bowling at WASHU!  Yes  WASHU had a bowling IM! ahahahahahaha  He was the first person to teach me how to drive!  Lord I learned a lot was scared to death initially to drive.  But oh girl would hit the road for any reason. (right??? Carol Howard  Sharron Schuff).  My daddy would Sunday meetings with us for what we did during the week.  We were like daddy whip up, WE CAN'T TAKE ONE MORE OF YOUR LECTURES.  But my dad was a man of wisdom. Those lectures molded us! Right Speedy, Pie & Nette!!!!  Daddy was so funny when he was going to night school to finish his GED (was at the 8th grade level then).  He would CALL HIS SELF correcting our English!  Lord have mercy on his soul.  But his Louisiana background was hard on the English language!  But he was a man who knew the King's English after graduating.  You best believe we were REQUIRED to speak the KING'S ENGLISH!  But of course with Louisiana influence on his and my mom's side, we could speak some BROKEN ENGLISH.  My teachers would ask why didn't I speak like I wrote.  Well, you spoke what you heard!  We spent a lot of town with our grand parents as our parents worked.  YOU DID NOT DATE CORRECT THEM!  You joined in.  Also, in the summer, my daddy believe all God's families should live the weekends on the beach.  AND WE DID!  My mom would be so mad at his when he brought us back - OUR HAIR WAS JACKED UP AND FULL OF SAND!! hahahaha   Lord those were the days.  That's when started to braid our hairs so we could just wash it and return to school the next day looking DECENT.  My my my my I miss Mitch!  ROTFL LOL  RIP DADDY!

UNBELIEVABLE! MY THOUGHTS!

You know when I heard that Pastor Tate had passed, I actually questioned why!!!  I know we are to accept the Lord's way.  But it was so hard to understand why.  He had kidney cancer (which I did not know until after his passing).   As a person diagnosed with Lupus (LSE) in 1975 and have lived all these years.  As a person diagnosed with kidney disease in 1989 and have lived all these years.  As a person diagnosed with colon cancer in 2009 (and no chem after surgery) and lived all these years.  As a person who survived an aorta valve open heart surgery in 2013 and lived all these years.  I KNOW GOD IS A HEALER.  I question why he didn't heal Pastor Tate?  But I know that the flesh rising up.  He has healed me so many times I even thought maybe I had him occupied.  I am now going through a crazy cold.  I know this stinking thinking is so wrong.   I am, through prayer, focusing on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. (Phil 4:8).  But I know that even if we don't understand God's decisions, that it is his decision. Rest in Peace my friend!!!!!

YOU KNOW THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS RACISM! JUST IGNORANT PEOPLE!



Like when you are invited to be the guest speaker at a conference and you asked to clean the tables and refill the pics.
Like when you're in the airport and you are told that they more toilet paper in women's restroom.
Like when your boss tells you to call DC and answer the questions of another agency and the caller says he wants to talk to person who work the packages and you answer, that is me.  The person then says I want to speak to the person who signs the letters of approval, and you answer 'tis I.  Then you finally have to admit to your boss that you don't have the right "accent" for the caller (BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE).  Then you are sent to meeting any way to be asked to seek against the wall because the table is reserved for the important people.  You comply.  Then one of those high ranking officials realize you're the only one in the DOD with a successful program and ask you to come sit by him for the remainder of the conference. (OF COURSE THE THOUSANDS OF THINGS LIKE THIS HAS HAPPENED IS BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE JUST IGNORANT).
Like when you go in a store and you followed because you have the wrong "accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE).   LORD online shopping is so relaxing.  
Like when people walk into the office and assume you are secretary.  Must have been the 
"accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE).  
Like when people have to call the bank when you write a check with all them zeros.  Must be the 
"accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE). 
Like when you arrived at a hotel and you're told the housekeeping office on the ground floor.  
Must be the 
"accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE). 
Like when packages are delivered and you're asked for the woman of the house to sign for the package AFTER you have delightfully said OH MY IT'S HERE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!!  It's my package!  Thank you!  
Must be the 
"accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE). 
Like when you're the only woman and African-American in meeting, and people are shocked to realize that you are the BOSS (supervisor)!  
Must be the 
"accent" 
(BECAUSE REALLY, THAT'S ALL IT CAN BE).   
Like when you let people in your office act as if they were the supervisor because that's all they'd talk to (MUST BE THE ACCENT).  Now was good time because when you're the end of the meeting the person says his boss is at the meeting (HAHAHAHAHA A AHAHAHAHAHAH)!  And they ask who!  Tis I!!!!!!  Boy got to do something about this accent.
Like when you arrive to teach a class at the local college and the students don't realize they're speaking with instructor and wonder if the instructor is going to boring.  I CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!!!!!!
Like when you know God is in control and not let this "stuff" bother you for 34+ years.  Without my signature (on many occasions) stuff didn't happen.  But I knew that God was watching me and would frown if I abuse my authority.  BUT YOU HAVE GOT TO ADMIT THAT IS SOME FUNNNNNY STUFF!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY!  Not because Christmas is in the atmosphere, but because we survived another year thriving and in our right mind.  We not only thrived but God has taken us to another level in his Love, Spirit, Peace, Understanding, Soul, Knowledge, Spirit of Servitude & Citizenship, Sanctification, Reconciliation, Acceptance, Forgiveness, Humility, Spiritual Rebirth, Justification, Victory, Faithfulness, Kingdom Living, Anointing, Power, Royalty, Holiness, Work, etc.  READY TO HIGHER!

This is 3 generations!!!!!!!

The lady on the left, my mom, Janie Mitchell Redmon worked 2 and 3 jobs, lots of overtime to ensure we had a roof or head. Although she was divorced from my dad, they worked together to ensure our success. 


The lady on the left is my baby sister, Jeanette Mitchell Lamb. She and my mom are survivors of CANCER! GLORY! 


The lady in the middle is Jeanette's baby daughter. She one half of our baby twins Javonna Lamb and Jawanna Marie Lamb! She graduated on Dec 13 with a BSRN. Her older brother graduated exactly one week (Dec6) before her with his fourth degree, BS ENGLISH AND PHILOSOPHY! 


NOW YOU KNOW THIS FAMILY IS OFF THE CHAIN. DOESNT TAKE MUCH TO PARTY! BUT THIS WAS A BLESSING FOR US! GLORY! AMEN! GOD IS GOOOD ALL THE TIME! HE KEEPS ON BLESSING US! IN THAT GREAT GETTIN UP MORNING, FARE THEE WELL! MINE EYES HAVE SEEN THE GLORY OF GOD! AMAZING GRACE HOW SWEET THE SOUND! GLORY AMEN

THANKSGIVING FOR 17 DEC 2014:

Today I am so sick.  I slept about 7 hours in the middle of the day on yesterday.  Hardly ever sleep that deep. Usually I nod off and then recover.  I sweat really bad.  My left shoulder was killing me on yesterday.  Felt like I had a full lung of water on Sunday.  Wacky Wacky Wacky!  On Saturday, I was too dizzy to drive home from tutoring.  I called Irv Sr. to come and get me.  THAT'S WHY I AM THANKFUL!  I know a God who will heal me.  I have a family who cares for me.  If I am not feeling well, my son tutors for me, also.  My nephew will come from Huntsville to West Limestone County to see about me.  My mom inquires about my daily.  That's what it take, a village to ensure my sanctity. I AM THANKFUL FOR MY LIFE! The ups and downs have been wonderful in shaping me.

THANKSGIVINGS FOR 13 DEC 2014:

I am so thankful all the people who are MARCHING FOR JUSTICE!  Some say it won't make a difference.  The ministers told Rev Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. the same thing.  But he believed in a God and followed the urging of the Holy Spirit to bring to light atrocities that are occurring in this country.  Unless you are the mother of the Black Boy, you can't imagine what we go through raising them.  Even if they make mistakes, they are still human.  The problem lies at the hands of those who do not help.  It DOES take a village to raise a child.  If you are not a part of the village, you are the problem.  I have always done what I could to help others because I was driven by the Holy Spirit to act.  It so easy to criticize than get involved.  But I AM SO THANKFUL FOR A GOD WHO PROVIDED THE MEANS FOR ME TO HELP WHEN I COULD!  But I truly have to pray because I have angst against those who criticize with no action.  Pray for me sisters and brothers in Christ!  I love you all!

THANKSGIVING FOR 12 DECEMBER 2014

I AM SO THANKFUL!  For the first time in 8 years I was able to get out and shop for gifts for mt BOOBIES #1-5 at Christmas.  Always had to send my family members because of my health.   Thank you Jesus!    I walked and walked!  Glory!  I am thankful for my baby sister (Jeanette Mitchell Lamb).  She had two children to graduate this year:  Rodney Lamb Jr on last Saturday from Athens State University (Athens, Al) and Javonna Lamb on tomorrow from Lamar University (Beaumont, Tx).  She has worked so much overtime to support her children!  GREAT JOB NETTE!  She has four more in college.  With her kids we get a Bar-B-Que EVERY YEAR for the next 4 years!  I am so thankful for all college graduates who have persevered and fought the good fight!  The future of America depends upon on our youth engaging themselves academically.

THANKSGIVING FOR 11 DECEMBER 2014:

I am so thankful today.  Today was the end of the 2014 Fall Semester at Calhoun Community College.  I served as a Part-Time Laboratory Assistant (Tutor).  It was an enjoyable time!  Meeting new people.  Helping students succeed.  Helping the academic light come on was so EXCITING.  I thank God for my academic gift.  Through all my health issues, I CAN help by being a tutor.   As a tutor, I feel like I am God's servant.  I am so thankful to be chosen to be used by God.  I am thankful that I am doing GREAT physically, mentally, spiritually:  
40 years since being diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (in remission since 2003); 
30 years since birth of the son I was told I would never have, being had Lupus; 
25 years since diagnosis of Lupus Kidney Disease; 
5 years after diagnosis with colon cancer (and no chemo or radiation needed - GLORY!); 
2 years after starting dialysis!
I thank God for this journey.  
From the words of MINISTER MALCOLM SPEED:  When I look back over my life, and I think things over, I can truly say that God has made a way, I'VE GOT A TESTIMONY!!!!!!

THANKSGIVING FOR 9 DECEMBER 2014:

I am so thankful!  Have a lot to be thankful for.  Life is a gift.  The longer I live I love my gift.  I unwrap my gift each day and see what I have received.  I experience all the events of my life as if they are the best gift in the world!  As if this gift of life is the last I will receive.  I praise God everyday for the people he brings into my life.  The wonderful people who enhance my life are energetic and life giving.  The people who are less wonderful are opportunities to test my patience and love.  No matter what a person does we are commanded by Jesus to Love them.  No ifs, ands, or buts about it.  I watch all happening on TV and wonder if all Love those they disagree with.  It is disheartening to see the hate spewed out of the mouths of people who declare they Christians.  We have a higher calling to love.  So I am thankful that I can give unconditional love in spite of my faults.  Thank you Jesus for loving for me and showing me my wicked ways that I must correct!

THANKSGIVING FOR 4 DECEMBER 2014:

I am so thankful for the ability to use my faculties.  I am thankful for in my right mind.   Thankful for food and a roof over my head.  I do not take any of this for granite.  I know of the homeless out in the cold tonight.  I know of the hungry with no food to eat.  I know of the mentally ill left to walk the street.  I know of those who have lost all hope.  I know of those struggling financially.  I know of those caught in a web of drugs.  I know of those who need a healing of their body.  I know of those who want a better job to take care of them and their families.  But, I also know of a Jesus who will have mercy on each.  He will ensure their needs are met.  I know that it may not be on our time.  But he will show up and take care of them.  I know of the Holy Spirit who will comfort them while they traverse their trials.  I pray for them daily.  I thank God for the miracles he has already done and will do in the future.

THANKSGIVING FOR 29 NOV 2014:

After seeing all the people on Facebook having babies, I am thankful to the Lord for putting my Lupus in remission as I carried my Love, Irvin Lee Isbell Jr!  I know it was God because when I carried him home my Lupus went into a terrible flare.  But God saw fit to give me the strength to care for him.  I attended 99% of his events and was kept by God to cheer for him.  NO matter how sick I was he gave me strength to help him with homework and guide him.  I am so thankful for my son.  He is so compassionate.  I am thankful for the times he lotioned my feet as an elementary kid.  I am thankful as a middle schooler this kid helped cooked when I was sick, even as a high schooler.  I am so thankful as a high schooler he met me every night to help me out of my car upon return from work.  This boy's daddy worked the 3-11 shift and he was the man of the house for that time:  putting out the garbage, locking windows and windows, engaging the alarm, etc.  I AM SO THANKFUL!  I am thankful for my husband, who as a boyfriend, attended my Lupus meetings.  He was a college student but cared enough to learn about the disease.  I am thankful that when it was time to marry, he attended Pre-Cana classes, required for Catholic marriages, while we were in college, one year in advance of our marriage.  He also attended the 6 months marriage counseling sessions required before marriage.  I AM SO THANKFUL!  This man has taken care of me throughout all my illnesses.  He even speaks for me when I can't speak for myself.  I am thankful that he does my dialysis.  I am thankful to have my own private duty nurse.  THANK YOU JESUS!  I AM THANKFUL!

THANKSGIVING FOR 28 NOV 2014.

I am thankful for a day of rest and reflection.  Thankful that I can walk on my own, think clearly, and eat.  I do not take these for granite.  The times without these abilities make (demand) me appreciate them.  I am so thankful for the gift of healing that flows from my belief and patience.  Glory be to the name of the Lord!  I am most thankful for the activists in our communities helping those less fortunate.  Their compassion propel me to continue doing what I can do.  I am thankful for the teachers who do consider their jobs as a ministry.  They give all of themselves to ensure the success of our kids.  I am thankful for the police who do great jobs in our communities.  I was one of those children who benefited from a community program by the Beaumont Texas Police Department.  I am thankful for the pastors, ministers, evangelists, teachers, etc. who listen to the word of God and moves out at his directions, no matter how hard.  I am so thankful for single moms who try to fill the two roles in the family while working two to three jobs.  They do their best with all exhaustion and still bear criticism with dignity.  I am so thank for the dads who MAN UP and do their jobs, also working multiple jobs to provide for their families.  I am truly thankful for friends who are ride or die friends.  They chastise when need, encourage me when I'm down, cheer me on when I'm up and pray for me daily.  LOVE YOU ALL.  I HAVE A LOT TO BE THANKFUL FOR!

MY THOUGHTS - SATURDAY, 08-02-2014

Wow!  I have not written on my blogs for awhile.
Time for me to get a routine.
Lots going on in North Alabama.
Education systems all messed up!
Huntsville City Schools is fighting desegregation laws.
Ministers fighting the wrong battle!
So busy fighting being disrespected than trying to setup GED prep programs for those in their congregants.
Lord have mercy!
I am so sick and tired meetings and arguing that lead to nothing positive and productive.
That's why I don't go!
Have really joined the t-shirt society as a retiree!
Really have no desire to dress up any more. 
Must admit in 2007, the new environment threw me into a dressy pants and tops modes.
No more two-piece suits, just for meetings.
No they are official in the back bedroom.
Not wearing anytime soon.

I have spent a lot of time trying to get a part-time job.
Want to work, but short hours.
I just don't want the daily grind.
hahahaa hahahahah ahahahahah
Calhoun CC on many occasions.
Limestone County Schools
Want to get my 5th year Education Masters, but you have to have a district request you.
So sent my name to 4 districts, no bites.   UGGGHHHH!
Probably only save that for their full-time employees.
I will have start over and do another Bachelors degree.
Have to take the -olgies:  Biology, Sociology, Philosophy, etc.   hah ahahahahha hahahaha

I AM SLOWING DOWN.
I have worked numerous hours tutoring.
Searching for additional work to help the students.
Ensuring they get everything in on time.
It has been exhausting!
But, I have learned that I have to be a Moses as he was instructed Jethro!
Absolutely tooooo busy!!!!!

ABOUT THE 2014 GED® TEST

What is the test format?

The test is on computer.

Will the content change drastically from the current 2002 Series GED® Test?

How long will the GED® test take?

The GED® test will be about 7 hours long with the timing for each module as follows: 

  • Reasoning through Language Arts is 150 minutes (including a 10-minute break)

  • Mathematical Reasoning is 90 minutes

  • Science is 90 minutes

  • Social Studies is 90 minutes

Is keyboarding speed an issue? How does this influence test time?

The time given is adequate for students to construct their answer and key in their response. Field testing has demonstrated that even test-takers with minimal keyboarding skills have adequate time.

Are questions linear or computer adaptive?

Linear.

Will there still be multiple versions (forms) of each subject test?

Yes, as in any high quality standardized testing program, multiple equivalent forms of the test will be administered to test-takers to ensure that test security is maintained and to offer multiple testing opportunities to test-takers who might not pass on their first attempt.

Can students take the same form of the test over again?

The system will have 3 forms of the test and make sure that a student does not take the same form twice. Please Note: Students can re-test on the same form after 60 days of the last test.

STANDARDIZATION, NORMING, AND PASSING STANDARDS

How hard will the test be for older students?

The test is aligned with today's high school standards. It is at the same difficulty level as needed to pass high school today.

Since the test is being normed on high school graduates, will there be much of a difference in passing rates?

The Passing Standard for high school equivalency was set based on the performance of a national sample of high school graduates from the class of 2013.  The cut score for high school equivalency was set at a performance level such that the passing rates on the individual content-area tests are comparable to those that are currently in place for the 2002 Series GED® Test.  The Passing Standard on each content area test has been established at a scaled score of 150 on a scale of 100 to 200.

GED Testing Service will be coming out with a scoring announcement soon.

Any word on scoring cut points for GED® vs. career- and college-ready pass scores?

The cut scores for the GED® with Honors, representing performance consistent with readiness for career and college, were set at a scaled score of 170 on a scale of 100 to 200 for each content area test.  The GED® with Honors cut scores were based the performance of a national sample of high school graduates from the class of 2013 who participated in the Standardization and Norming Study (SNS) in the summer of 2013.

Will the 2250 minimum score still be utilized for passing the GED® test?

No.  The new test will be on an entirely new scale of 100 to 200 points with a Passing Standard of 150 points on each test module.  In 2014, test-takers will need to reach a score of at least 150 on each of the four content modules (Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies) in order to be eligible to receive a high school equivalency credential.  There is no longer compensation between the test modules to offset lower scores on one module with higher scores on another module as there was on the 2002 Series GED® Test. 

Will the new scoring reflect whether or not students are college and/or job-force ready?

Yes.

If 150 equates to high school equivalent, what is the score needed for assessing college/career readiness?

The score needed for career and college readiness has been established at 170 on a scale of 100 to 200 for each subject. This score is based on performance data of a national sample of high school graduates from the class of 2013 who participated in the Standardization and Norming study in the summer of 2013.

Will students from the correctional education setting be included in norming sample this year?

The test was normed on a national sample of high school graduates from the class of 2013.  As such, students from corrections, who are typically adults, were not included in this sample.

The old 450 average is now gone so that a student can no longer build points to make up for a lower test score (420) and still pass the GED test with an average score?

Yes, the scale of the new test is completely different, and there is no compensation of scores between sections of the test.  On the other hand, there is also no expectation that the test-taker needs to score higher than a minimum score to fulfill requirements for the high school equivalency credential.

How will the sample of graduating high school seniors affect scoring exactly?

The norming sample of graduating high school seniors does not affect scoring, it affects the placement of the cut score required to pass each of the modules of the test.

How is the 2014 GED® test scored and what score is passing?

The 2014 GED® test is scored by computer. The passing standard on each module has been set at a score of 150 on a scale of 100 to 200 scaled score points for each of the four content modules.

Why is this shift happening at this time and not in the future when it is more in line with current curriculum?

The shift to the Common Core standards is happening nationwide at the current time.  By shifting the content of the test now, but keeping the passing standard for high school equivalency matched with performance of graduating high school seniors in 2013 who have not yet had instruction in career- and college-ready content, we enable adult test-takers to achieve a high school equivalency diploma on the same basis as their current high school graduate counterparts, and yet provide them with performance feedback and information on their demonstration of skills consistent with readiness for career and college.  This information provides them with guidance that will be useful as they chart their course forward into postsecondary education or the workforce, which will require skills beyond what is currently required for high school equivalency.

REGISTRATION AND SCHEDULING

Do students register online for the new GED® test?

Yes.  Students register online for the GED® test on computer, using the MyGED™ portal at http://www.ged.com.

What will the new registration process consist of?

The registration process for the 2014 GED® test is much simpler. Students are required to sign up for a MyGEDTM account at www.GED.com and then they are able to access the dashboard full of information about studying, test day, scheduling, scoring, and college and career opportunities. When students are eligibile to schedule, they can go log in 24/7 to www.GED.com, click "Start scheduling" on their dashboard, complete the demographic questions, schedue one test or multiple tests at a time, and pay for their appointment. 

Will testers still be able to take one test at a time on different dates?

Yes. Test-takers can test on what they want, when they want, and where they want. This way they feel prepared every time.
